Splash pages

Splash pages are special announcements that appear first after the user has synced, pre-empting the AvantGo home page until the user has either "opted in" or "opted out" of the offering on the splash page. Once the user has opted in or out of the splash page once, it never returns again for that user (unless he or she chooses to reset their account for some reason).

  • The entire contents of a splash screen-including the call-to-action, opt-in button ("Sign Me Up," "Send email", "Add Channel")and opt-out button ("Go to Content," "No Thank You")-must fit within one screen on the device (150 x 140 for PalmOS/300 x 280 for Palm high-res and 215 x 250 for PocketPC).
  • The typical PalmOS splash screen is comprised of a top graphic measuring 150 pixels x 120 pixels, a text field for entering an email address, and two buttons side by side on a line below, one to opt-in and the other to opt-out ("No thanks..."). (Double these dimensions for Palm high-res devices)
  • There is significantly more room on a PocketPC device for splash screens. In order to accommodate the call-to-action, opt-in, and opt-out, you should be sure to only use about 215 pixels x 220 pixels for graphics or copy.
  • In our experience, it is generally easiest and best to design all graphics and copy as one graphic that fits into the space above the text-field-plus-two-buttons.
  • Splash pages are intended to be a quick-response, "call-to-action" promotion to collect an email lead, add-to-calendar, or add a channel. (Email address is pre-populated from AvantGo database. AvantGo will code.)

Note: Splash pages cannot be used to send emails to third party collection or auto-responder.

  • In rare cases, with prior approval from AG, customers can also use splash pages to deliver branding messages, which may or may not be linked to a secondary jump page (follow guidelines above for jump page.) Jump page will also need to include an opt-out button to return to AG home page.
