Resources for Creating Advertisements for AvantGo on-device display

For expediancy and tracking purposes, please follow these simple instructions when communicating via email with the AvantGo Creative Services Dept (ad_creative(at)avantgo(dot)com):

  • In the SUBJECT of your email, include the name of the advertiser (i.e., Dell, Motorola, Mercedes-Benz, etc.) and the date for when the campaign is intended to start. Also, note if the campaign is a "splash" or "jump" or both. For example, a campaign for Mercedes featuring a splash component, and a banners/jump component, that is promoting the new CLK and is intended to go live on September 1 would have a subject line similar to this: SUBJECT: Creative for Mercedes CLK Splash/Jump -- 090103.
  • Always cc your sales representative on all materials and communications sent to AvantGo. When sending creative to AvantGo, please send it to ad_creative(at)avantgo(dot)com. If you have questions, email is generally answered within a matter of hours, but for urgent needs, please call (925) 236-4743.
  • It's generally a good idea to wait until you have all the complete elements (text, graphics, banners, etc.) before sending the creative off to AvantGo. If possible, combine all elements into one .zip file and send as an attachment to your email.

Banners

Create (at least) 2 sets, one for high-res Pocket PCs (454 pixels wide), and one for low-res Pocket PCs (215 pixels wide).

If you are only creating 2 sets and would like the AvantGo Creative Services team to resize your ads to meet the resolution display requirements, you must provde a layered Photoshop file (so that text can be re-aligned and fonts can be up- or down-sized). If you are using any non-standard fonts, you must send them along with your files. Please send Windows versions of the fonts.

Banner sizes are as follows:

Palm Pocket PC Palm High-res Pocket PC High-Res
150 x 24 pixels 215 x 34 pixels 300 x 48 pixels 454 x 70 pixels
150 x 150 pixels 215 x 215 pixels 300 x 200 pixels 454 x 300 pixels

Note: a general rule of thumb is to not use type that is smaller than 10pt. for your banners for Palm device display.

Generally, since most displayed pages are white or neutral, solid color banners stand out more. If your banners will consist of a white background, it's a good idea to outline the banner with a 1pt. black line.

Splash Ads

Splash ads are the same sizes as the bottom banners listed above, EXCEPT low-res Palm splash ads, which are 150x120 pixels.

Email Auto-Response

Will your campaign include an email response?
AvantGo has the capacity to automatically send emails to any user who submits their email address to the system. If you choose to use this service, please be sure and include ALL of these elements in one .zip file or as attachments to one email:

  • a TEXT-ONLY version of the email
  • if you like, an HTML version of the email with all appropriate graphics
  • Specify the "FROM" name of the email (i.e., Motorola, Mercedes-Benz, etc.,)
  • Specify the "reply-to" address for the email (i.e., info@motorola.com, specials@americanairlines.com). AvantGo does not provide a reply-to address for your campaign. If you are certain that you DO NOT want any reply-to address, please specify reply-to address as "do not reply to this email"
  • Specify the "SUBJECT" line of the email (i.e., "AvantGo User: Here's the information you requested from Verizon"
  • If you will be having a third-party track click-throughs on the email component, please send the click-tags along with the body of the email, along with explanations of which click-tags go with which links or graphics.

Data Collection

AvantGo can collect multiple fields of information within the body of your ad.
Both the user's registered email account and zip code can be pre-populated in the fields within an ad, thus saving time for the user and eliminating entry errors. In general, outside of these two fields, it is a good idea to keep the fields such as name, address, phone, etc., to a minimum as these tend to discourage complete fill-in and submission of the ad form.

Here is an example of a an ad with a jump page that contains data collection.
